Music Competition

NMS is hosting a Music Competition open for all Boyle Heights residents, students and community members, and will be held in July. While there is some information on funding that remains to be decided upon, below is the basic information you'll need for now. Keep your eyes on this blog (and to the right under "music competition") for more details. An application will be ready as soon as funding is announced.

Get your chops ready for the Music Competition this July 2009. We are looking to uncover local talent!

All those who work, live and attend school in Boyle Heights are invited to join in the event. All ages are welcome! We are looking for talent as well as the ability to perform. Individuals and bands are eligible for participation.

Syles accepted for the competition include: folkloric, reggae, classical, country, Broadway, pop, rock and classic rock.

Cash and educational prizes awarded.

Salesian Boys and Girls Club Performance

On April 30th, a contingent of students from NMS walked just a few blocks to Salesian Boys and Girls Club to share music during the community gathering. Many students performed, including guitar and vocal students. Below is a clip of the String Ensemble performing.

Teachers In Training

Patrick Courtney, a teen alumnus and longtime scholarship recipient of the Neighborhood Music School, has given back to the community by providing free one-on-one piano lessons. Thank you Patrick for your long time serivce and dedication. You will be missed. Our families have been enriched by your teaching. Good look in North Carolina A&T State University.
